Signs on Utility (and traffic signal) Poles

Some of the worst "snipe" signs are the ones stuck on utility poles (and on traffic signal poles), in violation of local, state, and federal law. Some are so high that they could only have been put up using a ladder, making it hard to understand why the police have never seen, and arrested, someone.

These are not only ugly and block the view of drivers, but present a danger to utility workers. Have you ever had to climb a pole with climbing gaffs? I have. Any nail in the pole could lead to a disaster!

The official position is that citizens do not have the right to remove these. Back in 1997, at the County's request, BGE provided a letter giving two specific County code inspectors permission to remove these signs. One no longer works for the County and the other is dead.
